In this week’s podcast I express my frustration with social media influencers who dictate actions to their audience instead of offering gentle suggestions.
You’re not overreacting, this type of pressuring is an epidemic online. And this is particularly so in the health and wellness space, which makes it downright dangerous. What you are describing and suggesting needs to be a part of the broader digital literacy that we must start teaching our kids in school from an early age. Thanks Caitlin!
that's so true and a great point - it SHOULD be taught in schools from an early age!
As I think I've said before, I don't have kids, but I can't imagine what it's like to be a kid or young person growing up in today's technological world and online safety and separating the wheat from the chaff as to what is 'good/true' information and what is just...garbage and harmful stuff spouted by these non-expert 'influencers'!
Exactly… I don’t have kids either but I’ve often thought that if I were in provincial politics I’d be pushing hard for making this an important core component of the curriculum. There are, sadly, one or two lost generations here but it’s not too late to care in this way for the ones in the first years of their educational journey.
